Update:
McCutchen's injury has been diagnosed as a mild strain of the AC joint at the top of the shoulder. X-rays were negative, and his status is officially day-to-day, reports Rocco DeMaro of WPGB.

Recommendation:
The AC joint is what allows the arm to rise above the head, so it will be tough to catch and throw with soreness in that area. He is likely to miss at least a few games, but a stint on the DL looks unlikely at this point.
