Dan Uggla: No Extension with Atlanta, For Now -
11/21/2010 8:30:50 AM
Update:
While the Braves have said they'd like to sign Uggla to a long-term contract extension, the two sides won't begin negotiations in the near future, the
Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. "I don't see any reason not to do [an extension]. I mean, we knew what we were getting when we made the deal, and he was the top guy on our list. But I just don't think we need to jump into things right now," said GM Frank Wren.
Recommendation:
Uggla is in the final year of arbitration eligibility and turned down a four-year, $48 million offer from the Marlins which prompted his trade to the Braves. Uggla reportedly asked for a five-year, $71 million contract, so he may be too pricey for Atlanta. It's possible both sides are playing nice on an extension but the reality may be that he's ready to hit the open market at the end of the season.
