RotoWire NFL Commissioner services provide your league with updated results
and stats on a daily basis and the flexibility to create and customize
your league the way you want it.
Creating A League
To create a league, visit the Create League page. From here you must enter a name for your league and specify
a number of other criteria.
You can change all entries later except for League Name and League Style.
Be sure to choose these correctly before entering a league.
League Name: Your league must have a unique name. If your
name is taken, please add a number to the end of your name or register
the league under another name. Please do not enter obscene names. We reserve
the right to edit any name.
League Password: Choose a password for your league. This password
must not include any spaces. This is the password all league members must use to
enter the League HQ and obtain league reports. If you forget your Password, please notify
support@rotowire.com.
Commissioner: We need the name of the person who
will run your league and their Email address.
The commissioner must also select an Admin Password. This password will allow the
commissioner access to the area where he/she can make roster changes and edit the league's information.
Multiple Players Can NFL players be on more than one fantasy team at the same time?
If your league allows two teams to own Brett Favre, for example, you can allow that option here.
Divisions:
If your league uses divisions, please enter them here. You will be able to name the divisions later.
After this selection you are done with the initial setup questions.
We only have one type of league for our 2002 NFL Commissioner services: Head-to-head (points): Teams play other owners in a head-to-head
format based on a schedule the league creates. Winners are determined by
the owner who has the highest point total for a given game.
(A game consists of all the games for week of the NFL schedule). The point
totals are calculated by giving each category a point value. This is the most common
style for fantasy football.
On the next page you will enter these definitions for your league:
Starting Positions: Choose the number
of players at each position that your league will use each week. Your league can also choose teams for QB and Defense instead of individual players.
Our system limits the number of players in your starting lineups based on these Starting Positions. A team can't start more players than the maximum number for each position.
We don't, however, check that a player is eligible at a certain position. This will need to be validated and watched by the league commissioner.
If the commissioner finds an error, he can always make a retroactive correction after the games are played.
Roster Setup:
Team QBs: Select if your league uses individual players or team QBs. Only players with a position of "QB" will accumulate stats for the Team QB position. RBs, WRs, etc. won't have passing stats counted as a "team QB" if they throw a pass during a game.
Team Defense: Select if your league uses individual players or teams for defense. For teams, Team Defense does not include special team plays (punt returns, kick returns, extra points, blocked kicks, blocked kicks returned for TDs). Punt returns and kick off returns can count for team defenses if you chose this designation under "NFL team for punt/kickoff returns."
If your league rules call for these plays to be scored in a different way, you can always change this with the Edit Score feature.
NFL team for punt/kickoff returns: If you choose Individual then the players you start at each position (WR, etc.) will get credit for any special teams categories. If you chose team, then you will need to add a seperate Team ST for each owner in your league. Team Defenses do not get points for kickoff and punt returns or blocked kicks in any setup.
If your league gives special teams plays to your team defense as well, then chose the team designation for punt/kickoff returns and add the same NFL team for both Team Defense and Team ST.
(so for example if you have the MIN defense, and your rules say they get kickoff returns as well, then add both a MIN team defense and a MIN team ST).
When you choose whether you want to have Team QBs, Team Ks or Team Defenses - please note
that you will NOT be able to switch back to individual players for these positions at a later date.
Team Owner Permissions You have two options here: you can allow them just to set their lineup each week no moves at all.
Adding Categories
This is where you enter the categories that will determine the standings
in your league.
You will be able to add or delete categories and modify point totals for each at any time.
If a category is added or edited during the season it will affect all stats
from the beginning of the season to the present day.
If there is a category we don't have listed, we allow you to manually "Edit Scores" for each team each week. This way you can add categories we don't have and keep your league on our system.
You must enter two components when selecting a category. You must select the value of the
category, select if the category occurs "every" instance or "each" yardage range and then a "Min. Yards" range.
By entering a minimum number of yards to earn points, you can enter bonus points for length of TDs and Field Goals.
For example:
Bonus Points:
If your league awards bonus points yardage, follow this example:
If you want to award 3 points for a 100-yard rushing game:
Enter 3 points for the category "Rushing Yards."
Select "From"
Points will be awarded for each "Min. Yards" to "Max Yards."
Enter 100 for the "Min. Yards." Each game a player rushes over 100 yards they will get a three point bonus.
Set the maximum at a very large number (like 500) if you want all 100 yard games. If you want to award an additional bonus for 200-yard games then set the Max Yards to 200 and create a new category for 200+ games.
Points Per Yard:
If your league awards points per yard gained, you can use this system to enter that
scoring method as well.
For example, if your league awards 1 point for every 25 yards of rushing, enter the following:
Enter 1 point for the category "Rushing Yards"
Select "Every"
Points will be awarded just for each "Min. Yards," no need to enter a "Max. Yards"
Enter 25 yards for Min. Yards.
Bonus Points For Length of TD Score:
If your league awards bonus points for the length of a TD score, you can enter these as well.
For example, if your league awards 2 bonus points for a receiving TD of 50+ yards, do the following:
Enter 1 point for the category "Receiving TD"
Select "From"
Points will be awarded for each "Min. Yards" to "Max Yards."
Enter 50 for the "Min. Yards." Each receiving TD will get two bonus points.
Set the maximum at a very large number (like 110) if you want all TDs of 50 yards and longer. If you want to award an additional bonus for 75-yard TDs then set the Max Yards to 75 and create a new category for 75+ TDs.
Some Scoring Suggestions/Help
TD Yardage: If you want to enter points for "every" TD (ie. 3 points for all rushing TDs), enter the Min. Yards as 1. All TDs are considered to be at least 1 yard according to NFL statistics.
FGs: If you want to enter points for "every" FG (ie. 3 points for all Field Goals), enter the Min. Yards as 1. All FGs are considered to be at least 13 yards according to NFL statistics, so a 1-Yard Minimum will work.
Other TDs: Be sure to enter point values for all possible categories. For example, be sure to enter a point value
for Other TDs. If a player in your league recovers a fumble for a TD or some other odd TD, your league
will not get credit. Also be sure to include categories for 2-point conversions and special-teams TDs if your
league awards credit for these.
Points for passing TDs and passing yards apply to both quarterbacks and any other player
that throws a pass. (You can't enter separate designations for passing yards or rushing yards for each position).
Entering Teams
To create teams for your league, enter the manager’s name and his team’s
name along with an email address and web page. Email addresses and web pages are not required.
Entering a web page allows the team's name to be linked to their personal web page. If a team does not have its own web page
they can use Tripod to create a free homepage.
You may edit this information at any time. You may also add or delete teams
at any time.
Add Players
When you add players to team’s roster, be sure to include their initial
roster status. Only active players (A) count toward the league’s standings.
The other designations are all for keeping extra players on the roster:
they are (R) reserve and (I) injured. All three of these designations
will keep a player on a team’s roster but they will not count toward the
standings. You may have as many players on each of the four designations
as you wish. There are also two other roster designations which indicate a player
is no longer on the team, but he has stats that count toward that team's standing:
(T) Traded and (D) Dropped.
When entering a player you must also choose a transaction date. You
can enter a date before opening day (September 6) in case your league
allows for preseason transactions. However, only players designated as
Active will count toward league standings starting September 9.
There are two separate areas to add fullbacks and running backs. If your league does not make
a distinction between running backs and fullbacks, you will need to add fullbacks from the fullback area.
If you add an incorrect player or choose the wrong status, you will
be able to change this information later.
After you are done building teams, you will be sent to the league’s
HQ (Headquarters) page.
