Garciaparra retired from baseball on Wednesday, signing a one-day contract with the Red Sox in order to retire as a member of the team,
ESPN Boston reports.
Recommendation:
Garciaparra will enter the next phase of his life quickly, joining ESPN as an analyst later this month. He spent nine of his 14 years in Boston, winning back-to-back batting titles in 1999 and 2000. He finishes his career with a .313 average, 229 homers and 936 RBI.
