Cabral signed a minor league contract with the Red Sox on Wednesday, Baseball America reports.
ANALYSIS
The southpaw, who will be 28 in February, has not had much of an opportunity to show off his stuff in the big leagues, as he's pitched just two innings in the majors over the past three seasons, including none last season. He allowed nine earned runs over just 8.1 innings at Triple-A Norfolk last season before the Orioles released him. He isn't likely to serve as anything more than organizational depth next season.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2014

2010
Cabral spent time at four levels in 2013, topping out with the Yankees for a brief stretch, where he logged 3.2 innings over eight appearances. The value here comes in the form of a LOOGY, albeit one who misses bats at a very high clip, as he carried a double-digit K/9 at each of his three stops at Double-A and above last season. Most likely, he's headed back to Triple-A to begin this season, as his control in the minors (BB/9 above 4.0) a year ago did not portend the success he had in that regard during his taste of New York (2.5 BB/9).
Cabral has posted impressive numbers in the minors, and may be in the picture to handle a lefty specialist role for the Yankees at some point in 2012. He'll likely begin the year at Triple-A, however, in his bid solidify his place on the organizational depth chart.
Cabral has not shown anything special since joining the Red Sox organization in 2006. His fastball velocity isn't great and needs to keep hitters off balance with a decent breaking ball and changeup. Primarily used as a starter since joining Boston, Cabral was used some out of the bullpen for Short-Season Lowell in 2009. A promotion to Low-A Greenville is expected in 2010.
