ANALYSIS
After inking a minor-league deal with the Nationals in February, Flores split time between Triple-A Rochester and Double-A Harrisburg and batted .136 in 25 games before getting let go. Flores landed a contract with the York Revolution of the independent Atlantic League of Professional Baseball shortly after being cut by Washington. The 29-year-old outfielder last appeared in the big leagues in 2017, when he played in three games for the Angels.

Flipped to Seattle in the Dustin Ackley trade midseason last year, Flores played 150 games at Triple-A for the Yankees and Mariners between 2014 and 2015, posting a .282/.376/.449 line with 16 homers (655 plate appearances). Most of that production came in the International League, and a strong run in 14 games with Tacoma after the trade last summer (.423/.524/.654) came in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. The Mariners traded him in November to the Brewers, who could use a left-handed bat in what was a right-handed heavy 2015 roster. A likely fourth outfielder, Flores can play both corner outfield spots and possibly first base with Adam Lind out of the picture. He is out of minor league options, which could help his chances of making the team. A broken ankle cut short his season in mid-August, but he is expected to be ready for spring training.
Flores doesn't receive much attention in prospect circles, but he's quietly made his way through the Yankees' farm system a steady left-handed hitting outfielder with a good eye ate at the plate (12.2% BB% at Triple-A as a 22-year-old) and surprising pop for his size. An ankle injury limited Flores to just 63 games in 2014, but he saw increased playing time during winter ball during the offseason, which should help recoup some of the lost development time. Most likely, he'll begin 2015 at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and barring an injury or two on the big league club, he'll likely spend the entire regular season in the International League with the hope of earning a September callup with the Yankees. Long term projections are unlikely to suggest that there is more than a fourth outfielder here.
Flores has shown steady contact skills throughout his time in the Yankees' system, but he didn't have a great season with Double-A Trenton in 2013, hitting just .260 with a .717 OPS. Flores is just 5-foot-10 and 150 pounds, and subsequently seems unlikely to develop much power. He's also not a burner, and hasn't shown the defensive chops to stick in center field, spending most of his time in a corner. Flores is still very young, so he has some time to develop, but there doesn't seem to be much to dream on here.
Flores started to put it all together last season, putting up a .303 average with seven homers, mostly with High-A Tampa. While he's unlikely to develop much power, Flores has very good plate discipline and uses the whole field. Flores also doesn't have blazing raw speed, but has good baserunning instincts and could put up 20-plus steals per season as he progresses. He's a very good defensive player as well, and will probably settle in left field. Flores doesn't profile as a superstar, but he could be a solid performer for years to come if he continues to develop.
