Past Fantasy Outlooks
2004
2003
Martinez, 41, returns for his 18th and most likely final major league season. He is still an All-Star-caliber hitter, batting .294 with 24 HR, 98 RBI and a .406 OBP last season. He is almost certain to face some sort of injury that will limit his plate appearances, though he stayed relatively injury-free last year. A broken toe had him hobbling around the bases more than usual, but didn't keep him out of the lineup for an extended period.
It's hard to say how much legs Martinez has left in him, but if he repeats his 2002 season in 2003, Edgar may not make it through the season. The 40-year-old signed a one-year deal in November, ensuring he will finish his career in Seattle. But the key for him as always will be staying healthy. He missed 65 games due to a hamstring injury last season and his numbers (.271 BA, 15 HR, 59 RBI) suffered because of it. He showed three years ago (and even two years ago in fewer games) that he can still hit for average and power.
