Olerud retired in the offseason.
Olerud revived his flagging career with clutch hits and his usual rock solid defense when the Yankees picked him up, but he'll play elsewhere if at all in 2005, has little power, and isn't a .300 hitter anymore.
Olerud returns at first base for the Mariners, though he is coming off his worst hitting year since 1991. Olerud saw his all of his numbers drop in 2003 as he never got comfortable at the plate. This is the final year of a two-year deal and might be his last year in Seattle if he doesn't rebound. He isn't the same hitter that he was in his prime, but if he regains his stroke, a .280 AVG and .400 OBP aren't out of the question.
Olerud signed a two-year deal with the Mariners in December and he still has a few good years left in him. He is one of the more durable first basemen in the league, having missed only 14 games over the last three seasons. Along with all his other assets, Olerud doesn't strikeout that much and loves to take a walk.
