Williams has become a part-owner of the Diamondbacks, the East Valley Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
According to the report, Williams committed $3 million over 10 years to become a limited partner in the Diamondbacks’ ownership group, a move that was announced Tuesday after it was approved late last week by Major League Baseball. Williams will own half of 1 percent of the D-Backs; he is believed to be the first former major leaguer in modern times to have been granted an ownership stake. The D-Backs still owe Williams $11.75 million in deferred compensation, so offering Williams an ownership stake might be a novel way for the franchise to alleviate the pain of having to carry that much deferred salary.

2003 Fantasy Outlook
Turned 37 in the offseason, and he'll see part-time duty with Craig Counsell at third base, at best, in the last year of his five-year contract in 2003. If he plays enough to give you numbers of .260-15-60, you'll have done well. He's no more than a late-round pick unless you find out in the spring that Counsell gets hurt and the D-Backs decide that Chad Tracy is still a year away.
