Miller was released by the Cubs on Monday. He had signed a minor league contract with the Cubs in late January.
ANALYSIS
Miller appeared with the Cardinals, Jays, and Reds last year. He is yet another lefty on the market after the Rangers released Mitch Stetter and Joe Beimel. Miller is 39 years old however, and this may signal the end of the line for the veteran.

As a LOOGY, Miller generally gets the job done, but his K:BB ratio suffered a drastic decline from 46:11 in 2009 to 22:16 in 2010. His 57 appearances were his lowest total in nearly a decade, but at 37 he still has a little gas left in the tank. He'll be the top lefty in the St. Louis bullpen again this year, but situational relievers don't offer much for rotisserie owners to profit from.
Miller was fourth on the team with 13 holds and pitched much better than the other lefty specialist on the team (Dennys Reyes). He had a 46:11 K:BB ratio in 43.2 innings pitched. He'll be a big part of the St. Louis bullpen again in 2010.
Miller delivered a strikeout per inning in a situational role in the Rays' bullpen in 2008, holding lefties to a .209/.305/.308 line. He'll perform the same left-handed specialist role for the Cardinals in 2009.
Miller made 76 appearances last season, compiling a 4.86 ERA and a 46:23 K:BB ratio in 46.1 innings. He declined arbitration and will likely have a similar role wherever he ends up.
Miller proved to be a valuable lefty for Phil Garner out of the bullpen in 2006. He went 2-3 with a 3.02 ERA, made 70 appearances, and struck out 56 batters compared to 13 walks in 50.2 innings, a mark he desperately needed after posting a 35/29 K/BB ratio in 2005 with Tampa Bay. He'll be back in the same role with Houston this season.
Miller posted the worst strikeout-to-walk ratio of his career last year, and you wonder how many more chances he'll get to land a bullpen role as a left-handed specialist.
Miller is the textbook definition of a situational lefty. He's good in the role, but it's one with limited roto impact.
Miller will be the situational lefty in Tampa Bay's bullpen in 2004, with a chance to be part of closer committee if Danys Baez falters and no one else picks up the slack.
In Toronto under a minor-league contract after an effective season as a lefty reliever at Triple-A for the Reds. Will compete with Jason Kershner and Scott Wiggins this spring to emerge as the second lefty behind Doug Creek.
