Febles (knee) has signed a minor-league deal with the Royals, according to the team's official Web site.
ANALYSIS
He's going to test his knee, but long-range plans are for Febles to join the coaching staff. With Donnie Murphy, Ruben Gotay and Andres Blanco moving toward the major-league job, the Royals could use Febles' teaching more than his baseball talent.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

Febles is trying to resurrect a career that started with so much promise in 1999. Last season was spent entirely at Triple-A Pawtucket despite the need for middle infielders on the major league club at several points in the season. If you're hoping for a feel good comeback story, Febles is a good candidate, but not a likely one in the Boston organization.
Febles' offense was getting worse and it was impacting his defense, forcing the Royals to basically give up on him. Nagging injuries have robbed him of most of his offensive value. At 28, he might still find a job with his glove, but a starting role seems to be out of the question.
Dos Carlos became Un Carlos last season as the lesser of the two Carloses was finally sent down due to lack of productivity. His forte is defense, and he hit just enough early in his career to build expectations in and out of the organization. Oft injured, he never built on a decent rookie season (.256 BA, 10 Hrs, 20 steals in 1999). The injuries also took away some defensive ability (15 errors in 2002) and range, making the Royals consider other options for the future.
