Adenhart struggled in 2008, finishing the season with a 9-13 record and a 5.76 ERA in 26 starts with Triple-A Salt Lake. Despite the sub-par season, Adenhart remains one of the Angels' best prospects. Adenhart will be only 23 years old in 2009 and he'll likely begin next season in Triple-A once again. However, the Angels could have some openings in their rotation and Adenhart should get a shot at filling one of them during spring training.
Adenhart has developed into one of the better pitching prospects in all of baseball. His 2007 season wasn't as dominant as his 2006 season, but he was still 10-8 with a 3.65 ERA and 116 strikeouts in 153 innings. He throws his fastball between 89-92 mph and also throws a late-breaking curve and a good circle changeup. Adenhart will be just 22 next season and will likely begin this season at Double-A Texas again.
Adenhart suffered an elbow injury during his senior year of high school that dropped him out of the first round of the '04 draft and into the 14th. Tommy John surgery appears to have succeeded: he has a 3/1 K/BB ratio and three homers allowed in two pro seasons. He's a terrific target in deep-farm-system leagues, even with an ETA of 2009.
Struck out 59 batters in 50 innings in 2005 after returning from reconstructive surgery.
#1 high school prospect and #5 prospect overall according to Baseball America. #2 high school prospect according to TeamOne Baseball. First-team preseason All-American by BA. Polished prep righty that could move fast in the minors. Spots his fastball, which can touch 94, extremely well. Knows how to pitch, using his fastball to set up his power curveball, one of the best available in this June's draft. Can also reach back & blow a fastball by a hitter when needed. Adenhart will also mix in a refined changeup. Has the size & stuff to profile as a front of the line pitcher, and is savvy enough to change speeds & locate his pitches, Brewerfan.net reports.
