The Red Sox drafted Gibson in the second round in 2008, out of high school in Seaford, Del.
ANALYSIS
Gibson is a toolsy athlete with raw baseball skills he was expecting to polish at North Carolina. However, going this early in the draft makes it more likely he will turn pro. He has a high ceiling but won't move quickly.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2011
2010
Gibson had a full season at Low-A Greenville, where he continued to struggle with contact. He got better with his patience at the plate as the season wore on, but he strikeouts too often and has trouble making good contact on pitches at the outside corner. He's still very sound defensively and possesses great speed, but getting on base and making contact remains a need in 2011. And it should get harder if the club promotes him to High-A Salem.
Gibson, 20, is a rail-thin shortstop with advanced defensive ability and great speed on the basepaths, but he is learning a better approach at the plate. He needs to put more weight on his 6-1 frame, but at this point, the organization is more concerned with him gaining experience against professional pitching. He showed great improvement at short-season Lowell in 2009, though a hot start gave way to some bad plate habits. Gibson is starting at shortstop but is also learning second base and could go either way as he ascends the system.
