Reassigned to minor league camp
2BMinnesota Twins
March 28, 2017
Field was reassigned to minor league camp on Tuesday, MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger reports.
ANALYSIS
This was expected, as the Twins continue to make roster cuts, and Field had no obvious avenue to a role on the big-league roster. He will serve as organizational depth at Triple-A, where he has spent most of the past five seasons.

The Angels claimed Field off waivers from the Twins in November 2012, and optioned him to Triple-A Salt Lake as organizational depth in the infield. While the shortstop flourished in his time in the minors in 2013 (.303/.391/.484), he was unable to perform in limited time at the major league level last season, slugging just .154 in 26 at-bats. Cups of coffee aside, Field showcased an elite batting eye in his 81 games at Triple-A Salt Lake (11.8% walk rate) combined with an ability to hit for power (.182 ISO). While there does not seem to be any immediate plans to use Field in a more prominent role in the major leagues in 2014, he may ultimately land in a utility role in Anaheim.
Field struggled to replicate the production at Triple-A that he showed at the previous two levels, charting a disappointing .315 OBP while also seeing his steals and home runs fall into single digits. From a personnel standpoint, Field also took a step back, as Josh Rutledge emerged as the Rockies' top middle-infield prospect, resulting in Field's placement on waivers. Now with the Twins, Field faces a much easier path with an assortment of underwhelming players comprising the Twins' current middle-infield mix at the major league level. With a slight uptick in performance at Triple-A, he should have little trouble receiving a chance in the majors this season.
Thanks to late-season injuries in the middle infield, Field skipped Triple-A and received a 16-game taste of the big leagues down the stretch. While he was overmatched, it's too soon to write him off completely given his performance at High-A and Double-A over the last two seasons. Field offers a bit of pop (32 homers over 1,087 plate appearances since 2010) and can steal a few bases as well, but he's clearly blocked by Troy Tulowitzki in Denver. Look for him to spend most of 2012 at Colorado Springs where another strong offensive showing should follow. The Rockies still haven't found a long-term option at second base, which may ultimately be Field's destiny.
