Adams, who has done some nice work as a reliever in the past, was not very good for Boston after being traded in July from Toronto. He'll try to rebound in a set-up role with Philadelphia, where he's had a modicum of success in the past.
Adams' season was cut short in September, as he needed five bone chips and a bone spur in his elbow to be removed. While his innings were down, he had his best ERA of his career at 2.65. Now with the Blue Jays, he'll start out in middle relief and try to get his elbow back at full strength.
Adams had a 2.38 ERA and an 0.97 WHIP in 27 games as a reliever in 2002, where he'll pitch exclusively for the Phils in 2003.
