Past Fantasy Outlooks
2004
2003
Boyd, who was claimed off waivers from the Indians in October, was arrested for fighting twice in a pair of November altercations. Whether his combative nature will translate to mound success or not remains to be seen, but the team liked him enough to put him on the 40-man roster, while exposing some highly rated prospects in the process. The team subsequently lost five players in the December Rule 5 draft. Like many marginal big league hurlers, Boyd has been plagued by inconsistency, but he can be effective, in particular against right-handed hitters with his live arm and good slider. He'll compete for a job out of the pen from the right side, but since there's no such thing as fighting majors in baseball, his fantasy impact will be limited.
