Clark is done for the season after undergoing microfracture surgery on his right knee this past week.

ANALYSIS
Clark was injured earlier in the month and the hope was that the injury was just a bone bruise. His absence comes at a time where the Mets are shortage of outfielders and he likely would have been promoted. Now, he will have to hope he can get a spring training invite and hook on with a team next year.

Clark is a 34-year-old journeyman; he played for three organizations last year along. To his credit, he's a good fielder and a serviceable offensive player, but he's unlikely to win an everyday job and he doesn't provide too much fantasy value as a part-timer in most situations.

After a fine 2005 season, Clark was handed the starting center field job in 2006, but failed to hold onto it for the entire season. The 33 year-old Clark hit just .263 and was moved to a bench role for the final month of the season. He'll resume that bench role in 2007 for the Brewers, getting some spot starts and pinch hitting opportunities.

Clark surprised just about everyone in his first season as a starter. Problem is, he'll turn 33 in April and never hit that well before. He'll enter the season as the starter, but will be pushed by Corey Hart and Nelson Cruz.

Clark spent much of 2004 as the super utility outfielder. He did get a starting role late in the season after the Brewers traded Ben Grieve, but he's better suited as a fourth or fifth outfielder. Still, he'll challenge Dave Kryzel for the starting centefield job after the trade of Scott Podsednik.

Clark made the most of his opportunity as the Brewers' fifth outfielder in 2003. He took over a starting spot when Geoff Jenkins broke his thumb and ended the season hitting .273 with 13 SB. He will try to work his way on to the team again this spring as a reserve outfielder.

Clark had five hits in his dozen plate appearances with the Mets after getting traded by the Reds for Shawn Estes. With the Mets outfield unsettled, he might get a chance to play, but don't expect much.
