Acquired in 2003 for Sidney Ponson, Ainsworth started the 2004 in the rotation -- but that’s where everything went wrong. After a few horrendous outings, he had arthroscopic surgery that effectively ended his season. He had hoped to compete for a spot in the 2005 rotation until a torn labrum and rotator cuff discovered in spring training, and subsequent surgery in March, ended his season and led him to contemplate retirement. Released by the Orioles, Ainsworth has a lot of rehab to do before any organization would even contemplate bringing him up to the majors.
