Johnny Estrada

After one of the best seasons ever by a player with only six unintentional walks, Estrada was dealt to Milwaukee. He'll play a lot as the starting catcher, hit .280 or so and drive in 60 runs by accident.

Estrada was on his way to showing his 2004 break-out season was no fluke before hurting his back in a collision at the plate in July, which caused him to miss much of the second half of the season. Estrada hit just .222/.243/.296 after the injury, so his numbers should rebound. However, his ability to get on base and his power had fallen off before the injury. He'll be a solid backstop but may not return to the near-superstar levels he posted in 2005. His injury opened the door for Brian McCann in Atlanta and as a result he was traded to Arizona, where he'll start over Chris Snyder and Koyie Hill.

Estrada proved his minor league stats were no fluke in his first season as a starter in the big leagues by making the All-Star team and finishing with a .378 OBP. He lacks the power to be among the best NL catchers and needs to take more walks, but hits for average and will be a solid fantasy backstop.

Estrada is the likely starter at catcher for Atlanta with the departure of Javy Lopez. Although Estrada is a bit old (29) to get too excited about his first regular job in the majors, his minor league numbers have been solid. He hit .328/.393/.494 for Triple-A Richmond last season and was the International League batting title runner up. He won't be an offensive star in the majors, but he may not be your worst option either.

In 2002, Estrada (11 HR/67 RBI/.279) caught at Triple-A Scranton which led the International League with a team ERA of 3.31. Estrada was the Phillies' catcher of the future, but with the extension given the Mike Lieberthal, that future was written off. Now with Atlanta following the improbable Kevin Millwood trade, Estrada is a good bet to stick with the big league club if for no other reason but to help justify the deal.
