Past Fantasy Outlooks
2004
2003
Cornejo avoided 20 losses and managed to keep his ERA under five, but that's his only upside. The right-hander struck out just 46 batters in 194.2 innings of work, while walking 58. He's possibly the worst Tiger starter you could have owned in 2003, and that's saying something.
His 2002 highlights can be summed up pretty quickly -- Cornejo was super in a complete-game win over the Twins in April (one run, eight strikeouts), and he had one good month at Triple-A in the middle of the summer. Other than that, it was a lost season for Cornejo; Triple-A hitters got to him pretty good (163 hits in 132 1/3 innings), and major-league batters hit .303 against him. Did he lose his confidence? Was there an injury here? Until we see some positive clues in spring training that he's found his stuff again, we're not interested.
