ANALYSIS
The hard-throwing righty was 1-0 with a 7.94 ERA in three games with the Yankees last season and went 4-1 with a 2.66 ERA and 10 saves in 55 games with Triple-A Columbus. He'll have a chance to help out the Padres' bullpen if he can improve on his control.

Anderson throws very hard but doesn't have much action on his pitches; when his ball does move, 30 walks in 38 career major league innings demonstrate that it goes out of the strike zone. At 26, he'll probably start the year in Triple-A, but could come up as an extra arm during the season. He'll need to figure out how to control his pitches if he's going to have any impact on the major league level.
Anderson had a nice K/BB ratio last season (61/20) but has struggled when called up the majors. With the Yankees his upside is a middle relief job with minimal roto value.
Anderson was dealt to the Mets in the Armando Benitez deal and regressed slightly in 2003, with most of his success occurring after he was removed from the starting rotation and placed in the bullpen. Anderson possesses a low-90s fastball along with a curve, slider, and changeup, and could get a shot as a right-handed set-up man for the Mets in 2004.
Anderson, 23, went 4-2 with a 4.07 ERA at High-A ball in Tampa, 1-1 with a 0.93 ERA at Double-A Norwich and 5-1 with a 3.15 ERA at Triple-A Columbus last season. His K/BB numbers at the two higher levels were 49/16 in 53 2/3 IP. Anderson throws a low-90s fastball along with a curve, a slider and a changeup. He'll likely begin 2003 in Columbus, but if he pitches well, he could see the Bronx by season's end.
