December 22, 2009
Richar has signed a minor league deal with Florida.
ANALYSIS
The upside here is very limited, especially when you consider that he's coming back from a shoulder injury. Still, Richar will be in the running for a utility job with the Marlins during spring training.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2009
2008
2007
After closing 2007 as the White Sox starting second baseman, Richar got derailed in 2008 first by a fractured rib and then by the emergence of Alexei Ramirez. While he's capable of stealing a base or 10, Richar ultimately will be limited by an inability to get on base on a regular basis. That, and he's now stuck behind Brandon Phillips at second base. He's pretty much hoping to have a career as a utility infielder.
Richar came over in a midseason deal and earned himself a callup after hitting .346 in 133 at-bats for the team's Triple-A affiliate. He got off to a very slow start for the White Sox but showed some signs of life in September, hitting .260 and hitting three homers. Unless the White Sox decide to shift Juan Uribe over to second, he'll start the season as the team's starting second basemen as the organization has very few other options. If everything comes together he could be a decent power/speed option up the middle in AL-only leagues but that's probably a pipedream.
Richar lost a third of his extra-base hits and more than 100 points of ISO upon leaving Lancaster. Without the power, he's a utility infielder with some speed and OBP. Guys like this who can't really play shortstop struggle to find a place in the majors.
