Lutz re-signed with the Mets on Thursday, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports.
ANALYSIS
Lutz split 2014 between Las Vegas and a team in Japan, but will return to the former on what's likely a minor league deal. He had some success last season, and with the current roster situation for the Mets, he could receive a look if he continues to play well.

2012
Lutz had another solid season, hitting .293/.377/.479 with 13 home runs in 399 at-bats at Triple-A Las Vegas. He likely will go to spring training with a shot at earning a bench spot to back up at both corner infield spots.
Lutz was given his first taste of the big leagues last season, but suffered a broken hamate bone in his left hand and was shut down after just 11 at-bats. Given that he is already 26 years old, Lutz looks to be more of a corner-infield bench player than a regular at this stage, although his numbers at Triple-A Buffalo last season (.906 OPS) were another indicator that suggests he deserves consideration for at part-time work with the Mets in 2013. With David Wright and Ike Davis entrenched in front of him, a trade is likely his clearest path to that opportunity.
Lutz was limited to just 63 games due to a broken ring finger and concussion, but hit .295/.380/.500 with 11 homers and 31 RBI in just 220 at-bats. His path to the majors is blocked by David Wright and he's been injury prone in his career. If he keeps hitting and remains healthy, he could be used as a trade chip for the Mets to fill another need or replace Wright if he is dealt.
