ANALYSIS
Freiman's last stay with a major-league organization came in 2016, when he spent just over a month with the Nationals but failed to catch on with their Triple-A affiliate. He appeared in 116 big-league games over the course of his career, all coming with Oakland from 2013-14, when he slashed .256/.309/.408 with nine home runs and 39 RBI. The 31-year-old stated that he will be returning to Duke University this fall to pursue an MBA.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2015
2014
Freiman spent the first half of his season in Triple-A, hitting 15 homers with a .284 batting average over 310 at-bats. He spent the last three months with the A's, serving as a right-handed bat off the bench while also getting some starts against lefties. He showed some pop with five homers and a .717 OPS over 87 at-bats, but it came with an ugly .218 batting average. Freiman's spot on the team as a right-hander in a platoon likely depends upon the offseason moves the A's make, but the November signing of Billy Butler makes it very likely that Freiman will start the year in the minors. Even if he's on the roster, Freiman's value is limited to formats where an owner can take advantage of his career .796 OPS against lefties on the smaller side of a platoon.
Freiman was claimed off waivers by the A's in late March and he ended up making the A's Opening Day roster since they were in need of a right-handed bat. Freiman served as a platoon bat and pinch-hitter for the A's and came through with a .805 OPS against left-handers. He had very little success in his small sample of at-bats against righties and will likely have a platoon role again in 2014. Freiman did not show a lot of pop last season with only four home runs, but he did hit 20-plus homers in the minors in both 2011 and 2012. Freiman could hold a modicum of value for those in deep leagues with daily moves, as he will help fantasy teams on the days when the A's face a left-handed starter.
