The 28 year-old has not played in the majors since 2011, and is just a .195 career hitter in limited action. He signed a minor league deal with the Brewers in January, but will now need to look for another landing spot.

Scouts love Golson's collection of raw tools, but he's shown virtually no ability to refine them, and at age 26 he's past the point where he's ever going to put it all together. He'll try to win a reserve role with the Royals in spring training after signing a minor league deal, but he doesn't appear to have any upside.
Golson got his first extended taste of big league action last season, hitting .261/.261/.348 in 24 games. As that line indicates, plate discipline isn't his strong suit, and he has a mediocre .309 OBP in seven minor league seasons. His biggest value to the team - as a pinch-runner and defensive replacement - probably won't be enough to earn him a spot on the Opening Day roster.
Golson continued to show poor plate discipline, drawing just 29 walks against 113 K in 453 at-bats at Triple-A Oklahoma City. It predictably resulted in a poor season (.256/.297/.342) and his moderate power has diminished as he's advanced through the minors. There's nothing to get excited about here.
The 23-year-old Golson hit .282 with 13 home runs, 60 RBI and 23 stolen bases last season at Double-A in 106 games. The key stat, however, is his 34:130 BB:K ratio in 426 at-bats. Until his plate discipline improves, it's hard to see him making a big impact at the major league level, even with his good speed.
Golson is a bonus baby first-rounder out of high school. He had a decent season in Low-A in 2005 (.264 with 25 SB) but is still light years away from the major leagues.
Golson was the Phillies first-round pick in the 2004 draft from a Texas high school. The speedy outfielder signed quickly and hit .295/.345/.410 in the rookie Gulf Coast League. He's at least three or four years away from the majors.
Golson's a very toolsy guy and with speed to burn, and could play Centerfield or right with a strong arm. The high schooler’s bat speed and build suggest power and average once he’s muscled up his 6-1 frame.
