Reassigned to minor league camp

March 26, 2017
Kensing was reassigned to minor league camp on Sunday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
A second-round pick in 2003, Kensing has bounced between seven organizations in his 13 professional seasons. Last year, he spent most of his time at Triple-A Toledo, and he figures to head there again to begin 2017. Kensing does offer MLB experience, but the Tigers have better bullpen options at this point.

Kensing has yet to regain any kind of control since he underwent Tommy John surgery in late 2006, so while his fastball and slider are good enough to handle work at the back of the Marlins' bullpen he likely won't be trusted with a prime-time role until he shows he can harness them.
Kensing pitched sparingly after undergoing Tommy John surgery in September 2006. If his fastball/slider combo is back at full strength he should fill a set-up role for the Marlins, and could work his way into the closer mix if Kevin Gregg struggles or prices himself out of Florida's plans through arbitration.
Kensing shifted to the bullpen for good in 2006, and put together some decent numbers before blowing out his elbow and undergoing Tommy John surgery. If he returns at full strength he could regain a set-up role at the tail end of 2007.
He got pressed into major league duty far too soon, then lost the second half of his season to elbow troubles. Kensing will need to re-establish himself as both healthy and effective, and quickly, if he wants to even tread water in the Marlins suddenly-crowded depth chart.
Kensing put together a nice season at High-A, and was rewarded with some September action with the big club. He'll need to survive Double-A before he sees any more.
