Blake Tekotte

Tekotte was traded in the offseason from the Padres to the White Sox and in doing so, was given a fresh chance at reviving a career that has been spent for much too long in the minors, given his age. In 2012, he spent the vast majority of the season at Triple-A Tucson, where he served as a veteran of the team at 25 years old. The numbers he produced were middling at best as he hit .246/.287/.405 with nine homers and nine stolen bases over 347 plate appearances. At best, Tekotte is someone that the White Sox can use in a platoon role against righties and as a possible pinch runner, given his 36 stolen bases in 2011 at Double-A San Antonio. It's either that or he spends more time in the minors, but either way it's doubtful that he will be helping many fantasy owners in 2013.

The fact that he's already 24 years old and still sitting in Double-A is a bit disconcerting, but the minor league totals indicate a solid combination of both power and speed as well as a knack for getting on base at a rapid rate. His power totals have gradually increased each season, culminating with 19 home runs last year, and he's posted an ISO just above .200 over the last two seasons. Last year, he swiped 36 bases with a 75 percent success rate and with a 13.5 percent walk rate, amassed a .393 OBP giving the Padres strong reason to have him bypass Triple-A and head right to the majors once in May and another time in August. Obviously he was only needed for short stints, but hopefully he benefits from the experience. Expect to see Tekotte start the season in Triple-A and be on the short list of callups if the big club needs outfield help.
