Turns sights to Opening Day
Miller recorded a 2.70 ERA and 10 strikeouts across 6.2 innings this spring and is set for an Opening Day bullpen role in Detroit.
ANALYSIS
Miller didn't see a ton of work this spring, though he was effective. The veteran righty joined the Tigers on a one-year, $3 million contract in December, and he should slot into a fairly high-leverage role. While Alex Lange is set to close games for now, he struggled with command in 2023, meaning that Miller could emerge as an option for saves at some point if he pitches well. At the very least, he should be a decent source of holds and solid ratios.

Nearing return to majors?
Miller has been added to San Francisco's taxi squad, reports Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News.
ANALYSIS
Miller was added to the taxi squad Friday but was not added to the Giants' roster for their three-game series over the weekend against the Cubs. The 31-year-old signed a minor-league deal with San Francisco in June after pitching for the Yankees' Triple-A affiliate for the season's first two months. Combined between Triple-A Sacramento and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Miller has a 2.58 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 12 saves and a 69:20 K:BB in 52.1 innings across 42 outings. While he's appeared in the majors in nine of the last 10 seasons before this year, his last successful campaign was in 2015 when he made the NL All-Star team. His strong numbers in Triple-A and appearance on the taxi squad make it seem likely that he'll get another shot at the show in 2022.

Miller spent most of last season in Triple-A, where he racked up a 3.04 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, 69:21 K:BB ratio and 12 saves across 53.1 frames (43 appearances). The 32-year-old did make four appearances at the big league level late in the season, fanning 14 across seven innings for San Francisco, while only walking three. Miller has struggled mightily with his command since 2017, so 2022 was a big step in the right direction. It was enough for the Dodgers to speculate on his upside, as they signed Miller to a major-league deal for 2023, though it's currently unclear what role he will fill in their bullpen. There's enough here to take a stab in the final few rounds of NL-only league drafts or draft-and-holds.
