Tonkin was optioned to Double-A New Britain. However, he made a strong impression in big league spring training with four scoreless innings and GM Terry Ryan appeared to leave the door open he could be called up this summer. "Hopefully he'll go to Double-A and do the same thing," Ryan told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "Maybe he will be on the fast track."
