The Nationals have signed Reese to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A.
ANALYSIS
Last seen two seasons ago with Florida battling Hanley Ramirez for the shortstop job, there wouldn't seem to be much opportunity for Reese to get back to the majors with Washington, but he does have a history with GM Jim Bowden.

Reese made $1.2 million in 2005 without playing a game as he missed the year with a shoulder injury. The Mariners paid him a $300,000 buyout to go away, but Reese could now start for the Marlins largely based on his defense. His offense, though, makes it tough for him to keep an everyday job. Even if he does land a starting assignment, his bat will frustrate fantasy owners.
Reese filled in nicely for the ailing Nomar Garciaparra last season, showcasing his Gold Glove reputation, but the Red Sox were another organization that learned Reese can't hit to keep an every day job. Defense got him a contract with the Mariners, where he'll be the opening day shortstop, but his weak bat will frustrate fantasy owners.
A thumb injury curbed Reese last season, but the slick-fielding second baseman will have a shot to win the second base job with Boston. Though he won't hit for much power, he can swipe some bases. If he can nail down a starting job and keep his average respectable, he could end up being a decent AL-only bargain. But those are big ifs.
For all the grief he gets from statheads, Reese tied his career high in OBP last year (.330) and had his best walk rate for a full season. With his great glove, that makes him a contributor. He’s a terror on the bases; 12-for-13 last year, 85% success rate for his career. Talk him down, then grab him on the cheap.
