Thompson can steal some bases (41 thefts in 2004), but unless he can start hitting with some semblance of pop, he won't be much more than a depth guy in the organization. His main shot at sticking in the big leagues would be as a defensive replacement/pinch-runner.

2004

Thompson hit .257 with 11 RBI and 22 steals in 35 games for Nashville after being acquired in a July trade from Toronto. Thompson can steal some bases and does a decent job of getting on-base, but unless he can start hitting with some semblance of pop, he won't be much more than a depth guy in the organization. Selected by the Padres in the Rule 5 draft, as one of five Pirates taken in the draft, Thompson has a decent chance of sticking as a backup/defensive replacement/pinch-runner.
