Rueckel, who started the year back at Double-A Harrisburg, has humbled the Eastern League so far, posting a 0.73 ERA in 12 1/3 innings with a 15/2 K/BB ratio and three saves.
ANALYSIS
He's benefitted from a couple of unearned runs, but the K/BB ratio is still impressive. We said Rueckel was probably a couple of years away from breaking into the Nationals bullpen in the pre-season -- Rueckel actually emailed us to let us know he thought that timetable was a little off, and so far he's more than backing it up on the mound. The Nationals staff is about to get a shake-up, with Tony Armas and possibly Claudio Vargas ending rehab stints at Triple-A -- a promotion to New Orleans for Rueckel in the wake of that wouldn't surprise us in the least.

Rueckel returned to Double-A and kicked up his strikeout rate, but was also more hittable and saw his ERA rise as a result. The pieces seem to be there for an effective major league reliever; Rueckel just hasn't quite put them together yet.
