Seddon was pressed into semi-regular duty in September and was clearly overmatched, not surprising for a pitcher who has yet to come close to proving himself in the high minors after four seasons of trying. He's got a fastball and a slider, but neither is above average, and he lacks anything off-speed to complement them. If he's got a big league future at all, it'll probably be as a LOOGY.
Seddon had a so-so season at Triple-A in 2006, and when you notice that he was repeating the level, you see even less to get excited about. Both his strikeout and home run rates got worse the second time around. He could compete for a spot in the Rays' rotation this spring, but Seddon appears to be a long shot at best.
Seddon has been rushed through the Devil Rays' system, and the result was that ugly Triple-A stat line last year. There's no good way to describe a season where you allow nearly two baserunners per inning. He'll be back at Triple-A in 2006, and he'll need success there to be seriously considered for a shot in the big league rotation.
After a great start at high Single-A, Seddon came back down to earth with a rough stretch at Double-A. Still, the Devil Rays thought enough to add him to their 40-man roster in the offseason. He's probably still a year away from the bigs.
