Robnett was sent back down to Double-A Midland after a rocky start (.236/.307/.351 in 208 at-bats) at Triple-A Sacramento. The former first rounder failed to hit much at Double-A Midland as well (.259/.385/.365). His major league career will consist of a cup of coffee if he's fortunate at this point.
Robnett continues to flash modedate power (.267/.316/.465 in 490 at-bats at Double-A) but struggles controlling the strikezone (34 walks, 130 Ks). He's not developing as the A's had hoped after being a first round pick back in 2004, and there's little to get excited about here. He looks like the typical Triple-A slugger, hitting mistakes when thrown, but struggling against solid pitching.
Robnett struggled to make contact at High-A Stockton after a promising pro debut in 2004. He'll need a rebound season to be considered a marginal prospect.
Robnett was the A's second selection in the 2004 draft, hailing from Fresno State. His pro debut in the short season Northwest League (.299/.395/.470) showed some promise, so look for the A's to promote him to Double-A midway through the 2005 season. He could be the A's center fielder once Mark Kotsay departs in a few years.
The Fresno State centerfielder doesn’t have one tool that’s top-drawer but does everything well. Scouts have voiced some concerns about his bat speed and whether his power will be affected moving to wooden bats because of it, but he projects as a quality defender with good speed.
