The Red Sox have turned Hottovy into a starter although he had a four-year career at Wichita State as a reliever. He had some success at high-A Wilmington in 2006, but wasn't pitching against age-appropriate competition. He was less effective in seven Double-A starts. The lefty's best pitch is his curve, which is complemented by high 80s two- and four-seam fast balls and a decent change. At 25, he has just 41 innings above Single-A, so he won't be making an impact at the major leagues for at least two seasons.
