ANALYSIS
That didn't take long. Sanches, who was released a day earlier from the Phillies, joins an Astros squad in rebuilding mode. The Kansas City Royals drafted Sanches in the second round of the 1999 draft. He figures to get a call up when the rosters expand in September.

Sanches signed a minor league contract with the Phillies this offseason which included an invitation to spring training. He posted a 3.94 ERA and 53:36 K:BB ratio in 61.2 innings for the Marlins last season, but finished with ERAs of 2.26 and 2.56 in 2010 and 2009, respectively. If Sanches can limit his walks in spring training, and do the same during the regular season, he could end up being a nice (cheap) addition to the Phillies' bullpen.
Sanches had another career year in 2010, as the split-finger pitch he added two years prior continued to frustrate hitters. The .223 BABIP that fueled his stellar rate stats isn't close to sustainable, though, no matter how good his splitter is, so a big regression is likely in store in 2011. He should still be a serviceable middle-relief arm, but don't expect anything beyond that.
After years of bouncing from organization to organization, Sanches put together the best season of his life in 2009 and may have found a home. He fell back to earth a little at the end of the year, but given his strong 2008 at Triple-A it seems likely that he's figured something out. Barring an awful spring, he should be a reliable middle-relief asset for the Marlins.
Another late bloomer out of the Phillies bullpen, Sanches had a good year closing games at Triple-A and earned a major league shot. He was hit hard in 18 games but struck out 22 in 21.1 IP. Sanches won't light up the radar gun or close games, but he should have a major league career near the back of someone's bullpen.
