Ramirez will be converted from an outfielder into a pitcher, reports the Houston Chronicle.

ANALYSIS
Ramirez was graded a failure as a hitter when he was dropped from the 40-man roster earlier in July. The club says they haven't taken radar measurements of his fastball, but the 26-year-old always had a strong arm in the field. He will likely report to Low-A Lexington to begin working at his new craft.

Ramirez had another disappointing season at Triple-A. He offers a decent power-speed combination, but is hampered by very poor plate discipline, walking only 11 times in 457 Triple-A at-bats. The best thing Ramirez has going for him is that there are few offensive prospects in the Houston system, so barring a trade he has an undeserved shot at a callup. He's still just 24, so he could improve. We're just not betting on it at this point.

Ramirez spent the entire 2008 season at Triple-A Round Rock, hitting .231/.254/.382 with 12 homers, 23 doubles and 52 RBI. He also stole 19 bases while being caught nine times. While he struck out just 65 times in 432 at-bats, he also drew a pathetic 11 walks. He’s displayed a decent amount of power, but he simply has to get on base more often if he’s ever going to be an everyday player at the major league level. As it stands, he projects as nothing more than a fourth outfielder in the majors.
