2009
After spending over seven years in the minors, Gonzalez finally made The Show at age 29, joining little brother Adrian in the Padres' infield. The elder Edgar was a solid contributor, though his batting average was buoyed by a fortunate BABIP as compared to his average line drive rate. Still, Gonzalez showed enough to be considered for a utility role for 2009, and as an insurance policy in case their more highly regarded youngsters struggle. Just be wary of a drop in average assuming his hit rate normalizes.
