2017

2015

Recker's last name is a pun-loving fantasy owner's dream, but there's simply not much to like. The 31-year-old turned in respectable home run and RBI totals in his career-high 53 games played in 2014 (189 PA), but finished with just a .620 OPS and a dismal 10:64 BB:K. While he's posted decent power and on-base numbers in his nine years in the minor leagues, with 48 long balls and a .360 OBP in parts of five seasons at the Triple-A level (1,244 PA), high strikeout rates at each stop have tempered expectations, and at this point, his upside as a career backup seems fairly well established. Barring an unforeseen development, Recker will open the year as the Mets' top reserve option behind Travis d'Arnaud, meaning he'll be an injury away from significant playing time. That possibility alone will not make him worthy of a deep-league dart.

2014

Recker spent nearly all season in the majors as the Mets' backup catcher, playing in 50 games while collecting 151 plate appearances. During those opportunities, he showed a modicum of power (six homers), but struggled with poor plate discipline (13:49 BB:K). Depending on if the Mets sign a veteran backstop to mentor Travis d'Arnaud, Recker will either start the year in the majors in a similar role or play most of the year at Triple-A Las Vegas. Now 30 years old, there is little reason to think that a chance for Recker to see more steady playing time would unlock any previously unseen potential.

2012

Recker found himself at Triple-A Sacramento for the third straight year in 2011, so the impressive .287/.388/.501 slash line needs to be discounted given his experience and age (he'll be 28 years old when the season starts). He could battle for the backup catcher job in the spring if the A's want Derek Norris to spend time at Triple-A, but there's no long-term value here since Norris would become the primary backstop in Oakland if Kurt Suzuki were to be traded.
