2013
There was no outlook written for Alex Hinshaw.
2010
Despite terrible control, Hinshaw entered 2009 as an intriguing prospect after he struck out 47 batters over 39.2 innings in 2008. Unfortunately, he pitched just six innings in San Francisco last season, allowing eight runs with a 2:7 K:BB ratio over that span. When in Triple-A, his strikeout rate remained highly impressive (12.38 K/9IP), but with an accompanying 5.50 BB/9IP rate, his control continued to hold him back. He’ll need to show drastic improvement in that area in order to make an impact in the majors.
2009
Hinshaw is still way too wild (29 walks over 39.2 innings), but his 10.8 K/9IP mark last season was exceptional. He’s nearly unhittable versus lefties, but he’s not just a specialist. Improved command is a must, but Hinshaw should play an integral role in San Francisco’s bullpen in 2009.
