2011
Manzella struggled offensively through most of the 2010 season and did himself no favors with a poor showing this offseason in winter ball. The Astros had given the rookie the starting job last season knowing he was a Major League-ready defensive shortstop and hoping his bat would come around. It didn't, and now he will have to show big strides in spring training just to rejoin the club as a backup.
2010
Manzella made his MLB debut at the end of the 2009 season and has just five career big league at-bats, but his path to play short for the Astros has been cleared by the likely departure of Miguel Tejada via free agency. Manzella put up solid but unspectacular numbers in the minor leagues, and has never posted an OPS above .792 at any level. He doesn't have a whole lot of power or speed, and his batting eye has been spotty at best. He'll take his lumps in 2010, so you should consider a full season of at-bats with 10 homers and 10 steals a major success.
