The former second-round pick continued his gradual ascension through the minors in 2009, making pit stops with Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo. He finished the season with a combined 2.73 ERA in 42 relief appearances. While he sports a solid fastball, Simons needs to continue working on his secondary pitches before he'll get a shot at the big leagues.
