RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2014

There was no outlook written for Clay Zavada.

2013

Contract was purchased by the Padres in July of 2013.

2010

Zavada made the leap to Arizona from Double-A Mobile for good in May, going until July 2 before allowing his first earned run. The rookie struggled away from Chase Field (5.02 ERA, 1.570 WHIP) and faded a bit during the second half of the season, but he looks like more than just a future LOOGY, especially since he was more effective against right-handed hitters in 2009 than he was against lefties. He doesn't have an overpowering fastball, so there's little chance of him vulturing more than the occasional save, but he appears to have the tools necessary to emerge as a viable set-up option for the D-Backs as they continue to rebuild their bullpen during the offseason.
