RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2013

There was no outlook written for Matt Daley.

2011

Daley had a fantastic start to 2010 as he allowed one earned run through his first 15 appearances out of the bullpen. From there things went sideways as his luck faded (.431 BABIP in May), before they eventually went completely south as he fell victim to a shoulder injury. The injury knocked him out for almost three months, but he was able to make two appearances in September. He's going to need to work on his control issues (3.86 BB/9IP) or hope that he regains the dominance he showed in 2009 (9.71 K/9IP) to be effective in 2011.

2010

At 27, Daley is too old to be considered a prospect, but there's still plenty to like. Signed as a non-drafted free agent out of Bucknell in 2004, Daley made his debut with the club late in April, and immediately became one of the more consistent pitchers in the Rockies' bullpen. After just nine appearances, however, he suffered one of the more bizarre injuries of the baseball season when he stepped on a discarded bat, which an umpire had just tossed "out of the way," spraining his ankle. He rehabbed quickly and got right back to throwing strikes, posting a 29:10 K:BB ratio with opposing batters hitting .239 against him from June through August. It's not impossible that he could surpass Manny Corpas as the heir apparent to the closing throne, currently occupied by Huston Street, but unless your league scores holds, he has little fantasy value as a middle reliever.
