Ondrusek worked his way into pitching in more high-leveraged roles in 2011 with mixed results, starting strong before a string of bad outings in July. His mediocre strikeout rate will prevent him from becoming an elite reliever - at this point, he doesn't appear to have closer-worthy skills.
2011
Ondrusek emerged as a useful middle reliever for the Reds over the middle of the summer last season, at one point carrying a 22-inning scoreless streak. His strikeout rate hasn't quite caught up to his 93 mph fastball, but that occasionally happens with pitchers in their first exposure to major league hitting. Ondrusek isn't a candidate to close, but with another couple solid seasons under his belt he might work into that picture.
2010
Though Ondrusek powered through three minor league levels as a reliever and posted good ERA's, his strikeout rate has never fully matched how hard he throws. He got hit around pretty hard in the Arizona Fall League. The Reds added him to their 40-man roster in November, and he'll spend 2010 in Louisville trying to harness his stuff.
