2012

Wilk, the Tigers’ 2010 minor league pitcher of the year, continued his ascent up the team’s prospect rankings with a solid season at Triple-A, going 8-6 with a 3.24 ERA and 76:14 K:BB ratio in 18 games. The 24-year-old lefty has an average fastball, curveball and slider, but he very effective change-up. His success is mostly tied to his pinpoint control and somewhat deceptive delivery. Wilk struggled in his brief time with the Tigers last year, allowing eight earned runs in 13.1 innings of relief, but he has little left to prove in the minors. The Tigers are expected to give Wilk a chance to compete for an Opening Day roster spot in spring training, but he’s behind multiple candidates to nab a spot.
