RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Alex Wimmers.
Wimmers, a first-round pick by the Twins in 2010, spent the 2013 season working his way back from Tommy John surgery. He struggled with the team's rookie-level affiliate, posting a 7.20 ERA over six starts, and ongoing elbow issues may have played a role as he underwent surgery in October to decompress the radial nerve in his right elbow. His health is uncertain heading into spring training and it looks like he may fail to live up to his first-round promise due to his injuries.
Wimmers, Minnesota's 2010 first-round draft pick out of Ohio State, had a strong professional debut by allowing one run in 15.1 innings at Low-A Fort Myers with a 23:5 K:BB ratio. He has a 90-93 mph fastball, a good breaking ball and the best changeup in the draft class along with sharp control. He'll likely begin 2011 in Double-A, with a chance to reach the majors as soon as 2012.
