RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Pat Light.
Light's development took a hit in 2013 when he lost two months to a hamstring injury and he finished with just 34.1 innings. The tall righty has a good pitcher's frame, but there's some work to do. His fastball velocity fluctuated within games; he didn't locate it well and it was hittable. Further, Light needs to develop his secondary pitches. As a result, the bullpen could be in his future.
Light was Boston's first-round draft pick out of Monmouth University in 2012. He has a long frame that can handle the added weight as he matures. His fastball is mid-90s and tops out 97 mph. Light has a very smooth delivery with good downhill trajectory. He'll need to develop his slider and changeup in order to remain a starter, but should have success with just a fastball at Low-A. He could develop into a late-inning reliever, with closer potential.
