The Indians think Allen could handle the closing job, but appear set on bringing in a veteran to handle those duties, MLB.com reports. "We just want as many good pitchers as we can in the bullpen," general manager Chris Antonetti said. "We feel that Cody and Bryan (Shaw) are both capable of pitching in that role, if that's the way our roster takes shape this winter. In an ideal world, we would prefer to bring in a guy, or multiple guys, that have late-inning experience."

Allen may be the leading in-house candidate to close games following the release of Chris Perez, MLB.com reports. "I'm confident in the guys we have internally," general manager Chris Antonetti said. "Cody Allen and Bryan Shaw are two guys, specifically, who have demonstrated the attributes you're looking for in a closer. They've got a good combination of stuff and performance, and they've both pitched in high-leverage roles this past season and got very meaningful outs for us on a very competitive team. So I'm confident that one of those two guys could potentially do that role, if we get to spring training and we feel that's the best alignment. At the same time, we're not going to limit ourselves as we go into the offseason. We will search for opportunities to improve the 'pen."

2013

Allen dominated in stops at High-A Carolina, Double-A Akron and Triple-A Columbus before appearing in 27 games out of the Cleveland bullpen in his first full season of pro ball. He fared pretty well in his time with the Indians and has a two-pitch arsenal with a mid-90s fastball and a nice curve that suits him well. He'll need to iron out some command issues but has the stuff to miss bats at the big league level. The Indians are well stocked from the right side of the bullpen, but Allen figures to compete for a spot this spring.
