RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Yeison Asencio.
A .333/.372/.568 batting line in 21 games with Triple-A El Paso to close the 2014 campaign wasn't enough for Asenscio to save his place on the 40-man roster, as the Padres designated him for assignment prior to the Rule 5 deadline in late November. Considering his full body of work last season, it wasn't that surprising. Asencio spent most of the year at Double-A San Antonio, posting a .732 OPS over 117 games, which was a marked improvement from his first stint at Double-A (.652 OPS) but not that impressive considering his age. To his credit, Asencio did account for 43 extra-base hits between the two levels, including 15 homers, matching his output from his previous two years combined. Further, he struck out at just an 11.5% clip, but Asencio also walked a mere 4.9% of the time and will be hard-pressed to work himself back onto the Padres' 40-man roster in 2015 with far the more talented corner-outfield options ahead of him on the organizational depth chart.
